DEATH CULTby Olivia Dreisinger

Death Cult by Olivia Dreisinger is a deeply personal and critical meditation on suicide, disability, and the cultural forces that shape how we think about death. Anchored in the author’s experience of her mother’s suicide, the essay weaves memoir, cultural criticism, and historical research to examine both personal grief and the broader right-to-die movement.

504 Font (2023) by Emily Sara

Taking major inspiration from Be Oakley of Genderfail’s i am your worst fear i am your best fantasy font, the 504 Font is constructed from letterforms pulled directly from documentation of the 504 Protests.

The character set is intentionally limited to ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ, 504, and !. The letter Z—absent from the archival materials—is replaced with an image of Judy Heumann, whose presence endures through the protests and the ongoing, fiery resistance of the crippled community.

Disability history is routinely excluded from formal education and erased from both historical and contemporary narratives. Yet disability history is inseparable from all history. The 504 Font embraces this refusal of erasure: it is purposely non-linear and intentionally messy, holding the lived-in residue of physical and digital life. It operates within Disability Aesthetics (Tobin Siebers, 2010) framework—marked by friction, irregularity, and survival.

Free for personal use. Terms and license included with download.

Image description, alt text embedded: A black and white photograph from a 504 Protest. A long line of demonstrators march together. Judy Heumann and what appears to be Kitty Cone hold protest signs. Heumann’s sign reads, “No more negotiation—sign 504.” Cone’s partially cropped sign reads, “Our biggest handicap is Califano.” In the lower-left corner, a pink box overlays the image with “504 Font” written using the 504 Font letterforms.
